Sometimes you come across something that doesn't even take the blink of an eye before you know it's going
to be yours.
This old printed matelasse coverlet is one of those. I've never seen another. I don't think I'm over it yet.
I'd be guessing at its origin and I'd love to know if you have ever seen one like it. But it's incredibly soft and worn, and appears to have been retired just before it started to wear into shreds.
There's nothing like an authentic faded vintage print to make my heart start beating.
The pattern follows around the edges and has a circular decoration in the middle. Can you see the subtlest green in the leaves? Just a whisper of the design remaining. There's so much texture and detail here it deserves to be appreciated close up. . . .
Thanks for stopping by for a look!
I hope your week is going great!

What a find, Jacqueline! I have never seen a *printed* Matelasse before. It looks stunning on your table, and how wonderful that you found it before it went threadbare. It couldn't have found a better home.
ReplyDeleteWow.. the word covet comes to mind... but the lucky coverlet belongs to you, who will cherish the life it has left and renew it with more history and stories. It's a great find.. xo marlis
